Where it began..

Despite having a keen interest in health since I was young, my lifestyle didn’t always exactly reflect my interests. Throughout my late teens to early 20's I thought I was doing a good job at looking after myself yet my reliance on sugary snacks and energy drinks to get me through afternoons said otherwise. As I got older, my weight gain wasn’t excessive or fast but I wasn’t happy with myself. I told myself time and time again, “that’s it, tomorrow I will start this, I will be healthy!”

I tried detoxes, diets and even when I was going to the gym 6 times a week, I saw no results.

It wasn’t until someone mentioned “clean eating” and passed on a diet plan that I changed my thinking and started to see results. Despite many eating plans being quite restrictive I understood the two underlying factors of clean eating: eat foods as close to their natural state as possible while limiting processed food and make it a way of life, not a quick fix or diet.

That was 2012, and it wasn't easy to begin with. Changing habits was tough, to change my reliance on sugar and unhealthy foods took time. I must say my ideas and understanding around food has changed incredibly since and I am now invested on focusing on the nutritional value of a food rather than calories.

Although I saw changes in my body physically, the changes I felt were incredible. I had so much more energy and motivation. I stopped getting the afternoon slumps, my mood swings disappeared and I just felt so much happier.

If I can offer any advice it is this: A healthy lifestyle is about looking after yourself and treating your body with the respect it deserves. The more we accept and love our body, the better we will treat ourselves.

I hope that my website can give you the same love and passion for health and cooking that I developed when I found a healthier lifestyle.
